The Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) is a Government organizationunder the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources that conductsgeological research in Bangladesh.
The department consists of differentgeological and earth science branches.
Among the branches, stratigraphy andbiostratigraphy branch is one of the important branch of the GSB.
This branchconducts research on stratigraphic taxonomy using stratigraphic andbiostratigraphical tools.
Detailed Palaeontological research is being conductedin this branch.
Palynological and foraminiferal studies are significant part inpalaeontological study.Floras of Holocene time were almost similar to the modern herbs, shrubs andtrees.
It is one of the prime targets to develop a standard “live pollen” and“fossil pollen” catalogue to reveal the ancient/Holocene period.
The researchhelps scientist to identify the ancient palynological zone as well aspalaeoenvironment.
A small "Pollen Catalogue" is currently being preparedeach year as part of a supporting program.
Goal of this program is to prepare adetail pollen catalogue.
At the same time, work is underway to prepare a& catalogue & with samples of identified foraminifera.
These two catalogues playvital role in teaching and research of stratigraphy and biostratigraphy,archeology, hydrocarbon for researchers, academicians and students.This app tries to incorporate all the identified data of Palynological andforaminiferal studies.
